05 Jan 2022

Williamson Tea is a fifth-generation tea farming business committed to growing the highest quality sustainable teas to the benefit of Kenya, its communities, wildlife and environment.

Problem

Unstable grid and voltage fluctuations resulted in that the tea processing facility running on diesel generators for 6 hours every day. This is costly due to production stoppages and increased reliance on fossil fuel leading to severe environmental consequences.

Solution

We successfully commissioned a 1,500kWp hybrid ground-mounted solar PV system with 4,000kWh, Tesla Battery storage. The initiative is based on Williamson Tea’s ongoing environmental protection commitments that aims to promote use of sustainable energy.

Impact Since switching to solar, diesel consumption have decreased by 85%, also resulting in  a CO2 reduction of 1,474  tons.
