  • Concession agreements signed for four PV plants totaling 50 MW under the Millennium Challenge Account Benin II program
  • These plants will be located in Bohicon (15 MW), Parakou (15 MW), Djougou (10 MW) and Natitingou (10 MW)
  • GreenYellow is already present in Africa with more than 100 MWp of PV projects commissioned

GreenYellow, a global leader in decentralized solar power generation and energy efficiency, announces the signing of four concession agreements for the development, financing, construction and operation of PV plants with the Beninese authorities for a total of 50 MW.

These plants will be located in Bohicon (15 MW), Parakou (15 MW), Djougou (10 MW) and Natitingou (10 MW). Their construction was entrusted to GreenYellow and its local partner Egnon Consulting after a tender supported by the Millennium Challenge Account Benin II. The IFC and Proparco, lenders mandated to finance these projects, were also represented at the signing ceremony.

Following this crucial step, GreenYellow will be able to focus on the planning of the work, which is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2023. These projects will contribute to the Beninese government’s energy transition by meeting its objectives of decarbonizing its energy mix, with the production of green, local, competitive electricity.

In terms of ground-mounted PV plants in Africa, GreenYellow has already commissioned 40 MWp in Madagascar, 16 MWp in Mauritius and 30 MWp in Burkina Faso. With its experience in assisting governments in the implementation of their first solar IPPs, GreenYellow aims to develop new projects on the African continent.

Robinson Alazraki, General Manager of GreenYellow Africa said: “We are delighted and honored to have been selected by the Government of Benin to support its energy empowerment plan through low-carbon projects. The fact that all the projects were awarded to GreenYellow and our local partner is further confirmation that our strategy is well-suited to the needs of African governments and businesses.”
